Service Description

Ages: 9-17 years old Experience: Sailors must have a minimum of a basic understanding of how to sail a boat and be interested in racing. Sailors should practice basic knots prior to first class (8 knot, square knot, bowline, cleat). Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4pm-6:30pm September 10th to October 31st. For the One Day Program you can either show up Tuesday OR Thursday each week. Consistency is nice, but feel free to come either day, but not both. The Program will be Optis, 420s, and possibly J22s depending on availability. Lasers/ILCA welcome, but must BYOB and equipment. All boats will be provided, however opti sailors should strongly consider bringing a personal sail as it is probably in better condition than the GBSA sails. Sailors should report to the CJ Buckley Building for briefing on the day's conditions and plan at 4pm to then rig and sail out at about 4:20pm. Sailors can arrive as early as 3:30pm to begin rigging. Most Saturday’s will consist of 15-20 minute races around a course with each fleet getting its own start and sequence. Races will be low stress with no recorded results with the goal of improving as sailors. Prizes will be awarded for various and random achievements to keep things fun and interesting. We absolutely will have a class on Halloween and sailors will be encouraged to come up with a costume they can sail in. All classes will end with a debrief either in person or via a written report in the google classroom. ***All Sailors must have a properly fitting life jacket*** ***All Sailors absolutely must come dressed appropriately for the weather. Avoid cotton clothing. Fleece, wool, and technical material is best. Spray and rain jackets are mandatory. Spray pants are highly recommended. Gloves, warm socks, and a hat can make the difference between a bad day and good day. There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing.***
